Why Resolutions and Diets Don’t Stick (and What to Do Instead)

Happy New Year!

I don’t know about you, but it finally feels like the new year has arrived! With the kids back to school and our routines getting back to normal, I am finally coming up for air! 😂

Resolutions and diets are everywhere! But here’s the thing: over the years I could never get them to stick. Why? Because they rely on extremes—big changes, quick fixes, and unrealistic expectations. They don’t honor you or the journey you’re on.

True transformation isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. That’s why I believe in setting goals that focus on small, meaningful actions every single day—365 opportunities to shift, grow, and thrive.

Why Resolutions and Diets Don’t Work:

• They’re often too restrictive or overwhelming.
• They focus on a single end goal instead of daily habits.
• They don’t leave room for life’s ebbs and flows (hello, real life!).

But what does work?

1% shifts—small, daily actions that add up over time.

Your Daily 1% Shifts: Mind, Movement, Food

1. Mind: Start with your thoughts. A positive, growth-centered mindset creates the foundation for everything else.
• 1% Shift Idea: Begin each day with one simple affirmation: “I am making progress, one small step at a time.”

2. Movement: Moving your body doesn’t have to mean grueling workouts. Consistency over intensity is key.
• 1% Shift Idea: Commit to just 5-10 minutes of movement daily—stretching, walking, or dancing in the kitchen counts!

3. Food: Nourishment over restriction. Fueling your body with whole, vibrant foods will make you feel your best.
• 1% Shift Idea: Add one extra serving of vegetables to your meals each day.

The Bottom Line: Forget quick fixes. Choose daily, doable actions that honor your mind, body, and spirit. Over time, these 1% shifts will lead to a thriving, balanced life—not just in January but all year long.

Good Morning Reader, Are you doing life alone? I didn’t do any of this alone. I’ve made it through every stage of life—from childhood to college to momming to midlife—not because I had all the answers, but because I had my tribes. College? I had my roommates and late-night chats.Early motherhood? I leaned hard on my mom-friends and playdate tribes. The teen years? Oof. I needed prayer, patience, and friends who just got it.College drop-offs? I cried after drop off texting my support...

Happy Friday Mama, Have you ever wondered why so many people are now "sensitive" (not celiac) to gluten? Is it really the gluten, just the gluten or could it also be something else? The little bumps on our (me and my daughter) arms and upper shoulders would come and go. The gut issues, the autoimmune issues. At first, I thought: Welp, gluten sensitivity. Time to cut it out. But something didn’t sit right. So on my health journey I dug deeper (as us mamas tend to do when our gut says, “This...
